Hi, I’m Heidi
I’m a Certified Functional Nutrition and Lifestyle Practitioner, a recovering carboholic turned health nut, and a lifelong TMJ sufferer.
My approach is one of honoring your bioindividuality. You are unique. Everything is connected. Your story matters.
I founded Balanced Health Through Nutrition for people just like me, who are living with chronic TMJ, crooked teeth, and/or missing teeth. They all share one thing in common.
They compromise our ability to chew food properly, which ultimately leads to poor gut health and an increase in pain and inflammation. I teach and inspire people like you by showing you how to take back control of your health and regain your personal power. I give you the tools and techniques to reduce your pain and inflammation by being able to utilize the nutrients properly from the foods you eat.
I’M DEDICATED TO EDUCATING MY CLIENTS AND WORKING WITH THEM TO CREATE A CUSTOMIZED NUTRITION AND LIFESTYLE DESIGN.
I teach and inspire people like you how to take back control of your health and significantly reduce or eliminate your TMJ pain and inflammation by creating a customized nutrition and lifestyle design that is unique to you. I give you the tools and techniques so that you can find joy in life again.
I meet you where you are at and we walk your journey to health together. I like to say that when people experience chronic pain and inflammation, your cup is too full. Learning how to empty that cup is what’s needed to restore health and become resilient.
At the age of twelve I could no longer open my mouth wide enough to eat, let alone chew food. My mother resorted to putting everything in the blender for me so that I wouldn’t starve to death. This was the beginning of my TMJ journey of braces, retainers, splints, and extensive orthodontia. While these things helped to alleviate some of my symptoms, many still remained.
When I look back on my life, it all makes sense as to why I was a sickly child. I suffered from the worst food and seasonal allergies, asthma, constipation, and a lowered immune system. I couldn’t chew my food, so I just swallowed it whole. My body couldn’t extract the nutrients from the foods I ate.
The stress of not being able to eat like others, in conjunction with the constant jaw pain set the stage for leaky gut (gut permeability).
For over thirty years I suffered. It wasn’t until I changed my diet and learned how to manage my stress that my symptoms began to subside. The more I learned about the connection between TMJ and overall health, the more passionate I became to help others like me. I quit my job, and went back to school to obtain my certification so that I could share my knowledge coupled with sincere compassion and empathy with those like me.
In my journey with TMJ no one ever mentioned nutrition as a key component in managing my symptoms. If only I had known sooner what I know now…
Doctors don’t always have the time and resources to help their patients to create these critically important lifestyle habits. I am here to fill that gap.
